Avoiding weight gain during vacation while still enjoying food/drinks!!!

Let’s talk about traveling and nutrition. I get a lot of questions about if/how I enjoy drinks🍹& good food 🍽on vacation without eating like a complete asshole & gaining unwanted body fat ❌

These are my top 5 tips to keep you on track with your nutrition while making sure you’re still able to enjoy your vacation without stressing over food:

1️⃣ Get your physical activity in! 💪🏽If you have access to a gym, that’s my first choice, but if you don’t, make sure you get your steps in- do some hiking or exploring, or walk instead of taking a car 👟

2️⃣ Limit yourself to ONE heavy meal per day, not 3. I eat like I do at home for 2 out of my 3 meals. To account for my 1 heavy meal, I eat lighter (think lean protein and veggies) for my other 2 meals. If it’s a sedentary day, I eat one less meal because I’m not hungry when I’m not as active, which is very normal

3️⃣ It’s OK to have alcohol, but be smart when you do- don’t go for the sugary & heavy drinks, go for drier champagne, wine, or clear liquor with a sugar free mixer. To account for the extra calories from booze, eat lighter (less carbs & fat, more protein & veggies) and don’t forget to still get as much H20 in as possible! 💦

4️⃣ Try to choose between dessert OR a heavy meal rather than have both. Personally, although I love dessert, I’ll choose savory over sweet almost any day, so I usually limit dessert to a handful of times per vacation. If you’re a sweets person, eat a little lighter at meals to allow more room for sweets 🍭 OR share/split one dessert with someone so you’re only eating half of a dessert rather than a whole.

5️⃣ Split/Share food! Sometimes I’m indecisive, so picking 2 meals to split w my husband or friends is perfect – that way I can have a taste of everything without overdoing it 👌🏽

The most important thing is, don’t forget to enjoy your travels & have fun! If that means going a little overboard with food & drink, start fresh the next day and don’t beat yourself up. If you decide trying to follow any protocol is too stressful, and you’re OK with gaining a few lbs, that’s OK too! A week or a few weeks of vacation isn’t going to kill you, just get back on track when you get home ✅
