We all have those moments where we become "self destructive." We are on track and doing well and then something happens or comes up that throws us off course. Well here is the honest truth.............. Were not actually self destructive. Self destructive is defined as 1. Tending to do harm to oneself. 2. Marked by an impulse or tendency to harm or kill oneself. Well while we go opposite of our goals and desires I dont think either one of the definitions for self destruction is something you do. So why are we "self destructive?" Heres the real truth. The real reason we become "self destructive" is our goals and desires are not clear enough. SO HOW TO I GET CLEAN GOALS AND DESIRES? 1ST: SET GOALS THAT ARE TRULY YOURS To often do we set goals that are not truly ours but those around us. So we must set goals that are our own. We do this by looking at what our true desires are and how we desire our life to be. Make sure when setting goals, you are laying out ALL of your goals and not just a few of them at a time. The reason for this is because sometimes we come up with contradicting goals. If we do not put them all all out then we will typically drop them both and not achieve either. 2ND: FIND THE TRUE REASON FOR YOUR GOALS This part is where most of us fail. Just look at New Years Resolutions. We simply say "I want to lose 10 pounds, workout 3 times a week, be a better family member." But thats it! Heres how to do it: Take out a sheet of paper and write down each one of your goals on the top of a new page. Then take each goal ask yourself "Why do you want to achieve this goal?" "How am I going feel?" "Why do you want to feel this way?" "What am I going to have to do to make this goal happen?" Then take a few extra lines and ask your self again "Why and how?" 3RD: LINK ALL GOALS TOGETHER Going back to #1. We now must intertwine our goals together to ensure that they go together and are not contradicting of each other. Once you have done this, your on the right track for your goals. 4TH: GETTING A.I.R. A.I.R. Stands for: Attention Intention Retention Once all 4 steps are put into place you will have a much deeper connection with your goals and have a real purpose for achieving them. Because of these steps you will have a clear reason for your goals. This will keep you more connected to the reason as well as keep it firmly planted in the back of your mind.
